Although they only ever released 2 albums this band for me are the best I’ve ever heard mixing metal, rock, punk, acoustic and spoken! Although the songs off the album sound radio friendly the vocals and lyricall genius by Dax Riggs push the boundries of darkness but at the same time comfort you. Its hard to explain either you get Acid Bath or you don’t I guess.

So now I begin with the first album “when the kite string pops” as soon as the the feedback hits in on the first track the blue, you know you’re in for some treat from the deep south. It’s sound so mellow but so harsh at the same time and the pace builds up and slows down and then up again. They really know how to write a 6 min song that keeps the listener interested for the whole thing. This is pretty standard throughout the album. Except for track 3 “Cheap Vodka” which has a hardcore punk feel to it (i like to compair it to black flag if they had been from New Orleans) this album although the songs vary ion style and pace always has that swampy feel that you’d expect from a band from the deep south. The next track (after cheap vodka) is finger painting of the insane, an mellow and well thought song but considering the song title is quite dark. This album to me, sounds like the band are trying to make songs with dark meaning sound pleasent and in some ways quite poppy (if you catch my drift!) Then we come to the song Jezebel….. It somes like your basic punk/metal song but when you read the lyrics, you release how dark Dax is willing to go. “….broken glass and dirty needles, soul eroding truth. Electic god our superman found dead in a telephone booth, shards of teeth ice pick abortion….” This is what I love about this band musically you’d play them happlier to your grandparents but if you knew the content of the lyrics you’d think twice about it. The next tract (I’m not doing a track by track review just happens that these 3 stand out) is Scream of  the butterfly. Again nice music dark lyrics, but have you ever heard an acoustic song with double bass drum kit? well listen to this it works and works well!!! I could go on talking about every song on this album but I (and you) would be here all day! But my favourite song on this album is “Bones of Baby Dolls” which is as dark as it sounds, its an acoustic track, but when you listen to it, it’s not you typicall acoustic track. It starts out like one mind but as the song builds up it goes into more depth musically and Dax’s lyrics becoming darker (as is standard on this album but with some fucked up vocal effect!!) In my opinion this should have been the last track on the album but we can’t have everything can we

Pagan Terrorist Tactics was the second (and sadly last) album  Acid Bath made. Much the same as the first album only better production (which unlike most bands did not ruin Acid Bath) The opener “Pagan Love Dance” is fast paced and catchy just like most of thier music but there is always a darker meaning Although in my opinion not as good as kite strings (they have never written a bad song) this album still has a similar feel to the first (which is rare with One of the stand tracks is Bleed Me An Ocean. Again nice sounding but as dark as satans arsehole as a guitars and former drummer I really love this song the way the guitars and drums work together in this song blow me away! The tempo changes and the feelare unlike anything I’ve ever heard (I’ve tried to recreate this and failed!) It’s the only fashioned grunge style or slow bit for verse and fast and catchy for the chorus, but with out the simple structure and more feeling. Hard to explian listen to it! Another song on this album thats a stand out (and complete oposite) is Venus Blue, a very mellow song but dark (in true Acid Bath style) song that has everything you want from a band, solid drums, catchy (but dark) lyrics, a bass line that keeps the song moving and guitars thatn make you think “how the fuck did they think of that its so simple” I would again talk about this album for hours but in my opinion the crowning moment is with the last track which they placed right this time) “Dead Girl” probably the most messed up but most listenable song I’ve heard. I may like to add I lust for music that pushes the bondries and this songs nearly ticks every box. Pleasent sounding (like every acoustic “band” you see in you local) but has that dark and ghostly feeling to it that would scare off you typical comercial music fan. Its a spooky song about (from what i can gather) Dax falling in love woth a corpse whilts on the golf of mexico.

Unfortuately Acid Bath’s story end here with the death of bassit Audie Petre, who died in a car crash with his parent. R.I.P However other members of Acid Bath Contiued thier musical careers. Sammy “Pierre” Duet (guitars) joined legendary Louisiana band Crowbar, he did a few tours with them but is now in Death Metal band GoatWhore. Dax Riggs on the other hand has had many music project including Agents Of Oblivion and Deadboy and The Elephantmen, but recently has start on his solo career with errrr…. Dax Riggs.

All in all Acid Bath in my opinion the best band EVER as they combinded a lot of stlye and came out of nowhere and they are Louisiana’s biggest kept secret!!!  you all need to buy and listen to “When the Kite String Pops” and “Pagan Terrorist Tactics do it now!!!!!! Listen to Acid Bath or go through life unforfilled!

Dead Weasal 18/11/09

Zebadiah Crowe was formed around October 2007. At the time me and Paul (aka The Horrid) were playing in sludge/grindcore band Gilla Bruja. One day down the pub (all these things start down the pub hehe) we were talking about that we miss playing black metal so came up with this idea of a 2 man black metal project that we could do as something on the side from Gilla Bruja. The original names we came up with for this project were Christ Bait and Foul Mountain. A few weeks later we were in the rehearshal studio recording riffs and vocals (which was a bit odd to say the least) then The Horrid took them home to put drum machine tracks underneatht them! Hours after this practice the first song “the bellowings of false gods” was born! From this point onwards the band would be known as Zebadiah Crowe and myspace profile was created and we returned to playing shows with Gilla Bruja!

Whilst we continued with Gilla Bruja, Zebadiah Crowe just sat in the background just doing its own thing. It wasn’t until early July (at this point I’d nearly forgotten about it) that i got a phone call fromThe Horrid saying that a tour booker were interested in putting us on a 5 day tour with Gorgoroth. I was shocked to say the least but quickly said YES!!!!! so we begain work or finding a live line up! We would play as a 3 piece with Gnawe joinin us on drums! Was set to be a busy winter for us as Gilla were due to tour 3 weeks with Vader and Grave then this Gorgoroth tour would be 2 weeks after that! (yeah 2 bands to work at now hehe) We had just got the Zebadiah Crowe E.P. Lo Grosh ready for release when, all of a sudden the label Gilla were signed to went under we had lost our album release and tour with Vader and Grave! Until The Horrid managed to put Zeb on this tour as a replacement! We had a lot of work to do to get this band ready for the tour and a matter of weeks to do it.

Our first show was 12th September 2008 along with Artisian and The Furious Horde at the Hermit in Brentwood essex. This would be the first time we had all played a black metal show in full corspe paint in a long time, was great fun and we went down really well. The band was ready to tour.

The day of the first tour arrived and after a 10 hour wait at warsaw airport (not fun!!!!!) we stepped on to out first tour bus to be greeted by the tour manager/merch guy Darek (funny guy!!!!) and the rest of the crew. Along with them were the other 3 bands including the guys from Vader. I don’t know about the other guys but I was slightly star struck for a moment. We started to get to know each other before turning in for the night! The first show of the tour made me think that touring is not the most glamourous thing after all as we had to shift what felt like 20 tons of equipment into the venue. It came to show time the Corpse paint came on the nerves were running high and I was scared that a) i’d freeze up on stage or b) we’d be hated by the crowd! All of a sudden the stage crew said 5 mins! SHIIIIT!!!!!!! We walked to the side of the stage It sounded like no one was out there so I started to relax a bit more. The intro tape started “business as usual” i thought then we walked out on stage to see a packed house with at least 1000 people there. The four count from the drummer hit and we were away! the crowd loved us and some of them came up to us after the show to how much they enjoyed our set! Great success! the tour went on before returning home 3 weeks later, where we played our first local show (weird how this band played abroad before locally)

2 weeks later we went to Dublin to start the tour ith Gorgoroth and far different experience as we were actually on a black metal bill. we seemed to do much better on this tour and earnt a little bit more recognistion due to a live review in Kerrang magazine. After returning from this tour we decided to take a break and due to certain issues parted with drummer Gnawe ( I really dont want to go into this) We did however release a split with Orion which featured a few live recordings we had done!

It wasn’t until the spring until we started to think about doing something with the band again! We had a gig booked toward the end of Oct 2009 so looked for a new line-up. We decided on a 4 piece this time bringing in rachel aka Mortiroth on bass and Rob aka Chronic on drums! We set about working on a new set as we were about to release a new album “the many deaths of the great beast” We are now ready for this show and look forward to playing shows and touring this line-up!

Thats the story so far hope you enjoyed the tale of a band that went on tour with one of the biggest names in death metal within a year and a half of forming! here’s to many more years!!!!!!

I’ll be mainly using this as away of reviewing CDs and Live shows, but first heres a brief musical history!

My name is Jim, I’m 23 years old and I’m a semi-professional musican from north herts. Have been interested in music and the music industry for as long as I can remember growing up on a wide range of artists including, Motorhead, The Ramones, Hawkwind, Johnny Cash, Bob Marely, The Clash, Thin Lizzy and Queen to name a few.

From the age of  5 I started playing recorder (as it was done back then at primary school) wasn’t very good at learning the songs the wanted us to learn, but could always make my own tunes up and play them perfectly well. When I moved to my junior school aged about 7 years old my nan started to give me piano lessons, again really struggled with learning other peoples songs but was happy enough coming up with my own simple tunes. After about 2 years of the piano I got boared of it amd decided I would rather go out and play football with my friends.

It wasn’t until I was 13 that i found the instrument that I fell in love with. My first drum kit, some shitty pearl/yamaha/god knows what hybrid I picked up from a car boot sale. Within weeks I had mastered most of the simple beats and promptly got together with my friend Kev (RIP) and formed a band. Originally going under the name “Anarchy” we started to write metal songs in the style of Metallica, Korn and Marilyn Manson (we were young its all we knew). After a while we had a full line up and was under the new name of ZinK (it was cool to spell things wrong back then!) and were writting a more unique death metal style, mainly due to Kev being obsessed with Nile and Obituary at the time! This continued for a good 3 years where we played gigs in local pubs and clubs!

I was quite happy with that band until that fateful day in PE at school when I was tackled in a rugby game which shatterd my ankle. After 6 weeks in a cast was then told by my doctor i wouyld never drum again, I tried but it was too painful however I then took up guitar and played assecond guitarist in Zink! To this day I have played in many different band! (see if you know any of them!)

With the latest band Zebadiah Crowe we have been on tour arounf europe and the UK with such acts as Gorgoroth, Vader and Grave and have also had various releases including an E.P, an Album (out this week ) and a split re;ease with live tracks with Orion!
